Defy Washing Machine
On November 15, 2023, my 79-year-old mother purchased a 9 kg Defy washing machine from OK furniture store in Mpumalanga, Marapyane. bearing the ***-serial number.
Ever since she bought the machine, she experienced some difficulties with using it, as it was giving her an error message. At first the water was unable to come out. My elderly mother laid a complaint at the store, and a friendly customer assistant lady and store manager assisted her with their utmost respect, by calling the Defy offices. The technician came on 14 January 2024 to fix the error which was the water problem. Just after a few weeks of fixing that error, now the machine cannot wash, rinse and spin at once. It gives an error message and stops.
The store was notified of the issue once more. They promised that a technician will avail himself for service again. Being the daughter of an aging mother, I think it is extremely unjust and inappropriate to give my mother a machine that has so many flaws.
We were advised by the technician to install a pressure pump, which indeed it was installed. Nonetheless, the washing machine is not working probably.
I would like to know what will happen as it will undoubtedly be destroyed after the warranty expires. CPA 68 of 2008 informs us that consumers are entitled to a product that is free from defects, functional, and suitable for a significant amount of time. We have up to six months from the date of delivery to return or replace the appliance if it doesn't meet any of the aforementioned conditions.
Additionally, the National Consumer Commission mandates that we, as customers, decline risky products. This, in my opinion, is unfair because the object in question is an electrical appliance, and anything can happen to my mother.
In addition, the National Consumer ACT states that a client may seek a replacement product if they are dissatisfied with the current one.
Thus, in this instance, I ask that you give my aging mother a brand-new device.
We apologise that you may be frustrated due to this experience.
Thank you for sharing your insight. We encourage you to kindly review the warranty terms and conditions for your unit, alongside the known relevant laws, for transparency and your understanding. You can find this information on the Defy website.
It is also important to note that the unit in question is operated through a borehole that poses significant challenges. The job assessments have confirmed that the unit is facing sand particles from the borehole that affect the units functions and the water pressure issue is due to the source as you were advised. Unfortunately this is not covered by warranty.
