Defective Large Appliances and Pathetic Service
I bought a Defy freezer for R7500 from Makro on Friday 27 May 2022. I loaded all my meat worth approximately R25 000 and expected that my meat would be frozen. The freezer in question stays in my garage due to it's size and the fact that I don't need to open the freezer daily since it's for meat storage. I opened the freezer to get out braai meat to defrost overnight, one week later on Friday 3 June, and found all my meat rotten because the freezer was on but not functional. It was not freezing and barely cold!! I went to Makro with the Freezer on Saturday, requesting that they exchange same. They told me Defy will have to assess the freezer then a decision to replace can be made. Defy came to assess yesterday, Monday 7 June, then found out that the freezer had a loose wire. They offered to fix it and I refused as I preferred replacement. I got a call today, Tuesday 7 June, from Defy where they told me they won't replace but rather repair the freezer. They want to repair a brand new freezer which is 1 week old that I bought for R7500!!! I haven't even gotten into the fact that all my meat is rotten because I received a broken freezer!!! They are saying I should have checked that it's working!! I would check a second hand item, not a brand new item because when you buy from a shop the assumption is that the item is in good working condition. I am not happy and am definitely going to escalate this matter!!
