Brand new tumble dryer that nearly started a fire

A newly purchased defy tumble dryer, delivered impressively by Makro a day after an on-line purchase, all but exploded when we plugged it on an turned it on and tripped the houses power. I cannot understand how units are not tested and confirmed working by the manufacturer and then the reseller before delivery. Will I buy defy again or from Makro again? Not sure, hoping for amazing service from this point on but what a shocking start
