Clearance certificate - Removal of Name at the Credit Bureau

My journey with Debtline has been an enlightening and sometimes a frustrating one. The staff is superb and wonderful though at times some queries are not resolved in a satisfactory way. Failure to communicate promptly is one of the challenges that I have observed and experienced along the journey.

At this moment I am deeply frustrated by the lack of communication from Debtline in updating me on the progress of having my name removed from the credit bureau.

Let me take this opportunity to register my frustrations on this platform. I have since been issued with a clearance certificate on 11 October 2023. I was told to wait 20 days before I can open an account of which I did. To my dismay, two months later, in mid December 2023 when I went to open an account I learned that my name is still listed at the credit bureau. I immediately contacted Debtline for their attention and intervention. To date, this matter has not yet been resolved. I cannot open an account to start building my credit score. I followed up on numerous times and at times I will be told we'll call you back only to wait in vain for the call. Some of my emails are not being responded to. Today is exactly 90 days since being issued with a clearance certificate which really does not carry weight because some creditors reject it due to my name still listed at the credit bureau.

I wish Debtline manager(s) will come across this review and take all necessary steps to ensure that this matter is resolved with expediency. I have tried in the past to speak directly to the management but the consultants(counsellors) whom I spoke to whenever I called to request to speak to the manager, would try by all means to attend to my queries.

However, this time around I think I am being failed.

Please take note of this matter and see to it gets resolved.

Regards

Gopolang.

Hi Benjamin,

Thank you for taking our call and providing us the opportunity to investigate your matter.

We are sorry to hear you have had a frustrating experience but appreciate your openness and apologise for any inconvenience you've experienced.

As discussed, we will resend confirmation of the completion of the DR process to the credit bureaus and it appears that the credit bureaus have not updated their records accordingly.

We will revert as soon as we receive written confirmation from each institute that you status code has been updated correctly and that the DR flag has now been removed.

Kind Regards
The Debtline Team
