Debonairs delivery hygiene
On the 11th of July 2018 at around 14:25 I returned to my house from town (Vanderbijlpark). I took a corner close to my house and saw a s****** standing in the road and the driver urinating against a tree. As this a residential area (and close to my house), I stopped and confronted the driver. I quickly learnt that it was a Debonairs Pizza delivery s****** and a Debonairs employee, dressed in business attire.
A heated argument followed as the driver told me at first..."it isn't what I thought". What the hell???? I asked him his name but he refused and when I tried to take a picture of the s******'s licence plate, he kept blocking my view until I had to push him aside. The entire time he argued the fact that he did absolutely nothing wrong and that nobody was looking but he completely missed the point. I took pictures of his licence plate, of the driver and the tree which he urinated against as proof. As I had my kids with me, I was even more infuriated about the whole ordeal. This is TOTALLY unacceptable.
As a concerned citizen, I took it upon myself to report this immediately to the store manager at Debonairs at the Vaal Mall (Vanderbijlpark). As soon as I got there, I saw the culprit inside the shop talking to other staff members. At this stage every staff member were looking at me "awkwardly" and I was standing there for a while before anybody assisted me. I asked to speak to the store manager but were told that he is not available and that he went to the mall. I then requested his cellphone number but again the staff didn't want to give that to me. I was very adamant that I need to see him about a important issue. I was then introduced to Edward Brink who told me that he was in fact the store manager for Debonairs and Fish Aways (as these two shops are next to one another). I took the time to explain the whole ordeal to him in detail and showed him the pictures I took as well. He acknowledged that that was unacceptable and that he would report the matter. I left my contact details and I took his before I left. The reason why I am reporting this on this platform is to ensure that this matter is addressed by senior management and that this whole problem isn't just swept "underneath the carpet".
Debonairs Pizza delivers Pizza to customers. My question now is that what would these customers do if they knew that the "delivery guy" had a nice **** against a tree within a residential area just before delivering that Pizza? I think not. Being a small business owner myself I know the importance of always being respectful. This was surely not the case here. When handling food, it is imperative that an exceptional level of hygiene is maintained. With this incident, it is clearly not the case with this delivery person who represents Debonairs.
Don't get me wrong, the reason why I took the time to report this incident is because too many things are wrong in our country and it seems like nobody is doing anything to report issues like this. This incident left me frustrated, nauseous and damn angry. I took the effort to make sure that this incident is properly reported but it is the feedback that I will be given that will determine whether I will make this incident public or not.
