Damelin Correspondence College Pathetic Service
I was a Damelin student in 1997. I did my Senior Certificate via Damelin. I had no issues with them, or at least, my parents didn't have any issues with them. I passed and that was that. I didn't study anything through Damelin again. It's many years later and because of some struggles I was basically forced in to registering my son to complete his high school (grade 11) through Damelin Correspondence College. I knew it wasn't going to be easy for him, but he has been doing fairly well, and managing his time much better to that of when he was in a public or private institution. Now we all know how tough Correspondence is. No lectures to attend. But Damelin Correspondence assures you as the fee paying parents or students that they offer the best service with everything you basically would require, at your fingertips. The registration and getting him in was quick and efficient. You know how that always goes. I pay a monthly instalment and for this year alone, the bill for grade 11 costs over R30000. This is almost university fees. For this amount of money, you expect and deserve professional and prompt and immaculate service. But no...my son has literally been complaining since the 2nd term, about Damelin consultants and whoever is supposed to be his allocated 'mentor', who either doesn't respond to any enquiry/assistance emails or responds days or weeks later, this is after he has to send a few requests, asking them to please reply. I have been experiencing this too. Because of these implications and unsatisfactory service, I have decided to hold back on fees for a few months because we are not receiving the promised service we are paying for. My son has also since the 2nd term complained about, as well as his friends also attending Damelin, the scopes that are sent out to the students, are completely wrong. They are instructed to study certain chapters of their subjects but then those questions/chapters are not in the exam. No one has even responded or given a reasonable and valid reason as to why this happens. As we all are aware it's the final term and exams starts as soon as next week for most kids, a week ago, Damelin Correspondence College sends my sons personal exam timetable and I noticed that the exam venue isn't what it usually is. If any of you know Cape Town or the ones who are from Cape Town, knows what the traffic to CBD is like Monday through to Thursday. Also not just traffic but the inconvenience of travelling to the CBD. Damelin has changed the venue from Century City, where the kids have been based ALL year, to the CBD. I understand for most parents it's a major inconvenience and students and parents have not been notified about this change in advance. Which I find is unacceptable and unprofessional. I have been emailing trying to receive a valid response and all I'm getting is, the venue has changed and this is after I've been emailing several times. No valid reason. An apology which to me means nothing, and a basically don't care attitude from the consultants. I have decided to post my complaint of the unsatisfactory service provided by Damelin, and this creates even more stress on these students while they are preparing for their finals. I have even requested that this be the last term and perhaps next year the venue can change for the students, so we can all be better prepared for it and make the necessary arrangements. Not everyone is mobile. Not everyone is financially able to afford travelling to and from everyday to the centre of Town. Not everyone lives in close proximity. I certainly don't. I would like to know what Damelin Correspondence College I'd going to do about this now. If at the start of the year, this was communicated it would have been a total different story. But not being notified in advance. And not being notified at all. Only by the venue change on the timetable. It is ridiculous and as a former Damelin student, who never had any issues, I now, will never recommend Damelin to anyone! Paying through you neck for poor service.
