This place is JOKE!

The worse educational institution you can ever enrol your child in, especially the Stellenbosch campus; this comes from a current student who is enrolled in the "Tourism Management" program (or so they say). They misrepresented facts in 2020 by stating that classes will be "contact" even though a pandemic is flourishing. My father asked probably a HUNDRED times if they are sure, and they responded yes. My father, on the suggestion of the institution paid R60 000+ in accommodation costs (I am from Langebaan) just to find out at the orientation that classes will be online. The head of Stellenbosch refused to accept responsibility and blamed it rather on the client (we apparently didn't read our mails); on investigation it came out that NO email was sent regarding the "ONLINE" classes. The accommodation refuses to pay back the monies paid in advance and now we sitting (I'm at home and online) with a lost in income and classes online that is barely 2 Hours a day offered by someone at Potchefstroom campus. Speak of saving money. +- 40 students paying thousands of rands now being offered class by ONE individual. It took me months to write this review but this instituition is a JOKE. If private is what you want, rather go Damelin or Varsity College (im not marketing any other institution but rather stating how horrible this place is). we are now approaching attorneys to lay a charge of misrepresentation but this review is to save others of the incompetencies of this institution and especially the Stellenbosch campus. Stay away. Be warned.

 Dear Preslin,  Thank you for your review. In respects to your statement we would like clarify the following:  1.      Teaching and Learning Strategy: CTU implemented a blended teaching and learning strategy which includes Virtual Lecturer-Led Interactive Classes, this was communicated to you via e-mail, as well as at the orientation for new students in the beginning of the year. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic CTU is currently presenting classes virtually as per the COVID level 4 regulations Gazetted by the Minister of Higher Education to ensure your safety.  2.      Accommodation: CTU cannot be held liable for any other student expenses, which includes, but is not limited to accommodation. The Stellenbosch campus operations manager went to great lengths to assist you with your enquiry to the estate agent. Where upon she was informed that we may not further assist due to the fact that the campus operations manager is a third party. This was communicated to you and your parents.   Kind regards, CTU Team

Good day. Thank you for your response but the statements above needs clarification;

1) The Level 4 restrictions gazetted was ONLY communicated by the President on Sunday, 27th June 2021 which brought the country to Level 4. This was and is the first Level 4 restrictions for 2021, therefore the statement above does not justify the entire academic year so far. The country has only been in Level 4 for 2021 a mere 4 days. The rest of the year, classes were online as well and this was NOT communicated to students ahead of time. The campus operations manager so far communicated back then that emails were sent, but after investigation there were NO emails sent and this was told and communicated to her. We are still awaiting these "emails" that were sent.

2) Nowhere in the post above do I push blame on CTU for the accommodation provider not wanting to refund, but the South African law clearly states that if a consumer undergoes financial losses due to MISREPRESENTATION of facts, that can lead to a possible claim from the client. My parents communicated with CTU in 2020 regarding the classes (whether It will be online or contact) and the Stellenbosch campus (that time there was no level 4) communicated numerous times that classes will be contact and the accommodation can be paid. Can we blame the institution for covid-19 regulations that changes abruptly? NO. BUT, was proper communication given to us? NO. The emails were sent to my parents AFTER the meeting with the campus manageress.

IT is clear from the above that CTU did not communicate to me (evidence on paper trail) that classes will be online. They did not even communicate appropriately how student cards will be handled.

Classes are online but ONE lecturer teaching the entire so-called syllabus to an entire student body? Economically it only makes sense to CTU but not the student.

I cannot speak for the other students on this platform but welcome an investigation to find out whether other Stellenbosch students knew classes would be online?

Communication is key in this sector especially when parents have to source funds for the studies of their kids. CTU has not communicated anything timeously.

I await the Stellenbosch campus to prove this otherwise....
