Apparently a 77-year-old lady causes R5598.00 worth of damages in a +- 3-month period. Before a 76-year-old (now 77) lady rented a unit through CSI in a retirement village a CSI representative did an inspection with her and a 4-page inspection report was signed by her the lady. During a 5 month stay, the 77-year lady was hospitalized and stayed at her family for around 2,5 months in between the 5-month period. Due to her health, she could no longer stay on her own and had to move in with her kids. When she moved out, CSI rentals appointed a 3rd party company (which we were billed for) to do an inspection (the initial inspection date was moved by the company, and I could not attend the new date). A 136-page report was provided for the 3-bedroom unit. Once that was done, 2 contractors were appointed “HLM and Construction” - to do the building repairs and “JSA Construction” to replace a single button remote (that was left with the neighbor).

HML and Construction charged R5598.00 (including the call out fee) to repair marks and or chips in the living room area, the bedrooms (2 of which were never used) and some other places (door frames etc.) “JSA Construction” charged R800 to replace the single button mobile remote.

One or two days after the lady moved out, a nearby resident noted that the unit was being showcased - with no repairs done. CSI was asked about this multiple times; we received no response.

I have a video of the condition of the property after the move, I was happy with the condition and did not notice R5598.00 worth of damages - but I never thought of doing a 136-page report, and never expected CSI next the 136-page report, the call out charge of HML and Construction, the R5598.00 scratch/ mark repairs and with an R800 single button remote bill from JSA Construction. We did not have the opportunity to get our own service providers and quotes, I feel that I was setup for failure.
