Refusal to give a Refund for a Virtual Card Purchase

I bought a pair of Crocs with a virtual card and the Canal Walk store said that they couldnt give me a refund unless i gave them the physical card because still have the old card system. This is after the sales assistant told me that it couldnt be a problem to refund to a virtual card. today i explained to the store manager that i do not have a physical card and his response was to go to the bank to get a card or i couldnt get a refund. I call Crocs Head Office who said that they couldnt do anything regarding store policy, and said i get the area managers details from the store to sort it out. i have the till slip but the store is refusing to refund.
