*******ly trying to collect prescribed debt
Credit Intel have been harassing me.
They don’t call, they just send annoying SMSs each month that escalate quickly forcing you to call them to find out what debt. I pay my bills so I thought this must be a mistake, but the SMSs kept coming and eventually I called. The person that I spoke to couldn’t tell me anything about the debt except that it was from the SPCA. Since I haven’t had a pet for many years I told her that there is no way this was my debt. She said she would note this and I hung up, only to receive another SMS at the end of that month.
I called again and spoke to Siphamanbna on the 23rd May. He informed me that the debt was from the SPCA in 2010. I told him to please provide proof that I hadn’t paid this bill, unsurprisingly, I’ve not heard from him since.
While they were unable to provide the proof as requested, they did end up calling me but only to ask when I was going to pay. I informed the gentlemen that this debt is prescribed and he hung up almost immediately. This was not the end, now the SMSs have escalated to a “trace alert listing”.
According to the National Credit Act and the Consumer Protection Act there is protection against attempts to collect prescribed debt.
So, I encourage all people who are being hounded by credit intel to act and report them to the Council for Debt Collectors, ADRA and the NCA and CPA complaints departments.
