The mysterious case of the winter squeaks

In may 2014. We bought two recliners and two tables from Coricraft, Galleria Amanzimtoti; an order worth R26750. By November 2015 there was so little padding in the arm of the Baobab chair my elderly husband kept hurting his elbow when he sat down. It took several requests and eventually a nudge from hellopeter to get some response. I was having trouble with the stiff mechanism of my chair that I couldn’t recline it. (I have severe arthritis in my fingers.) The chairs were uplifted and we were given temporary ones for the duration of repairs. Though we stressed that ONLY the mechanism of my chair be worked on they very kindly put lots of extra stuffing in mine. Being short and fat I couldn’t fit in my own Huguenot chair that I had “broken in” for a year and my feet couldn’t touch the floor. A huge wad of stuffing was gouging my kidneys. I stuck it out for a while but eventually it had to go back. It was never the same again. I know it was well meant but the instruction was mechanism only. Fast forward to winter 2017 and the Baobab started squeaking horribly; but as the spring rains came and the air was humid it stopped. Roll on to winter 2018 and the chair sounded like a rabid dog with a squeaky chew toy; it was maddening. The chair was collected on 14th August. They sent the tiniest young man on the planet to collect this massive chair. My 83 year old husband had to help carry the base to the van. Seriously? No assistant, no dolly? Just make the clients do the work? There was no feedback of any kind and on the 21st August I phoned Rishe to find out what was happening. She was busy with a client and would phone back. I waited and waited. After more than an hour I phoned again. She was away from her desk; would I like to leave a message? Been there, done that! Eventually we spoke and I was told the chair would be delivered the next day; nothing was said about the state of the chair. The following day, here was the same wee soul delivering the chair. It was in one piece and it took an age to come apart. Again the octogenarian had to act as porter. As they came down the path I can hear a strange “pinking “noise. A new noise the chair didn’t have before. I spoke to Rishe who told me the chair was ‘taken apart’ and no problem found with the frame, but they sprayed the mechanism with Q20; something that apparently takes a whole week! The mechanism would need to be replaced at a cost of R2000, because the mechanism is not covered by warranty. This for a R10000 chair only 4 years old. Poor Temba battled forever to get the thing back together and after he left we turned the chair over to have a look and the back fell off! Not Temba’s fault, he just wasn’t strong enough on his own. We two ‘elderlies’ battled ourselves to get the back on. We are working on the mechanism, no thanks to Coricraft. For a chair that was supposedly” taken apart” it was very dusty underneath and I don’t think anything was done at all until the last minute when I phoned. I found Rishe to be arrogant ,officious and unhelpful .Perusing all my documents I see there is no reference to the mechanism at all in the guarantee. It seems Coricraft is trading on its name and not on the quality of its product.
