Quoted for 'Water Damaged' Macbook Air

My girlfriend had to repurchase a Macbook Air last year after her first one was ****** in a smash and grab and is still within it's warranty period. Last week Monday, while she was working on it, the screen started to flash, so she stopped using it and switched it off. The next day when she was at varsity it would not switch on. She returned it to the Claremont iStore from which she bought it and they confirmed that it was still in warranty.

Yesterday she received a quote of R8200.00 to fix it due to 'water damage', which is ridiculous because she never drinks near it and has not exposed it to any liquid that could get into the device, and Apple is not honouring the warranty to repair the item. This is a cheap plot to **** people out of their warranty and this will be escalated to the consumer protection act as this is unacceptable, especially since she uses it for her varsity work.
