Apple Pencil 2nd Gen issues

This relates to Apple Pencil 2nd Gen, purchased from Century City iStore. Below is a timeline of event related to my purchase: 14 June 2019: purchased online R2339 (includes R260 discount) - invoice number: #*** Apr 2020: device was no longer able to connect to devices (during lockdown) 6 Jun 2020: after lockdown lifted, I confirmed the device was faulty at Century city iStore. (repair number CA64840) No fee was charged for the faulty device. The device was replaced without hassle. A replacement unit was given to me still wrapped in it's factor plastic sleeve (but not in a sealed box). just within warranty period. 11 Nov 2020: replacement device confirmed faulty at CC. iStore. Pencil was not able to charge on any iPad (confirmed in store). Receive quotation for repair/ replacement of pencil from iStore R3834 (includes a cost R217.39 to confirm that the device is faulty, which wasn't charge on the first faulty unit, even after we confirmed in store that it was faulty)

I understand that warranties don't roll over in South Africa, as this would mean the manufacturer has unlimited liability on their products. Thus warranty is linked to the original purchase date. However I cannot understand how any rational reseller would recommend a repair/ replacement that is significantly more than my cost of acquiring the unit originally. I theirfor rejected the quotation and won't purchase a pencil again.

I was not offered any alternatives aside from the quotation. And was advised that the quote for a new pencil is based on the apple servicing channel pricing.

I have supported Apple for many years (having owned iPad2 iPad3, Air, Air2, ProGen1, ProGen3, iPhones 4s,6 plus, X, 11 Pro Max, AirPodsPro, Watch3, Watch5), and will continue to do so, but this is the first instance of dissatisfaction I've had with the brand, mainly given the time to failure of the product, warranty coverage and how I'm handled as a long standing customer.
