Is Continental Tyres the way to go?

Upon buying continental tyres 2 years ago, i was told they can reach upto 60 000km without any struggle but right now at 45 000km am seeing great signs of tearing. Was it the type i bought? Or they are just 45 000km mileage tyres? Am worried by the small number of km they take...
