Consumer friend - +-R91 000 interest since 2019
To date, I have paid Consumer Friend, +-R91 000 interest since 2019. I do not have a debt counsellor anymore, and have asked on numerous occasions to negotiate my debt. They refuse to help keeping saying that they cannot help cos I have a debt counsellor, even after providing paperwork confirming that I do not have one anymore & would like to pay my account direct. Its not like I am moving away from my responsibility, but how are we ever going to finish our account when we have companies like this who refuse to help & provide some understanding.

03 Sept 2024, 12:44Good day Fathima K,
Thank you for inquiry below.
Please note our system reflects that you are currently active within debt review.
Consumer Friend administers the debts on behalf of the respective credit providers within the debt review process.
In terms of the process, restructuring negotiations can only be negotiated with the debt counsellor.
Our system reflects that your debt counsellor did attempt to negotiate a restructure on your accounts however the proposal supp**** at the time was invalid due to missing details.
Kindly be advised although the debt counsellor has suspended services, their office will remain your debt counsellor on record.
In respect of the account balances, please note all payments receipted have been app**** to your accounts accordingly.
Upon investigation we have established although you have been making payments, however the payments receipted have been insufficient in respect of interest applicable.
We advise an investigation will be conducted to establish how we may best assist you in the interim.

03 Sept 2024, 12:55This is exactly what I have been asking for how you can assist with reducing the account without paying this huge amount of interest. I am aware that my debt counsellor did not conclude the restructure process and this the reason why I am no longer with them. I will aware your response.

04 Sept 2024, 15:49I will never understand how, the client cannot negotiate their own debt. So as per the process, I am struck with paying the interest at 20% on this account and at some point, maybe pay towards my outstanding principle debt.
