Incompetence from ComputerMania or Greed?

On the 18th of April 2021, we bought two Canon inkjet cartridges (black and colour) from Computer Mania in Canal Walk. My spouse went into the store, after double checking the model of the printer. When we got home after I had opened the cartridges I noticed that one of the the cartridges did not fit our printer.

We called the store and told them that they had provided us with the wrong cartridges, unfortunately by this time I had already completely opened one of the cartridges (only realizing it is the wrong cartridge when I tried to install it) and only opened the plastic on the other.

Computer Mania's 'solution' to the problem was that they would give us the correct size cartridge for a discounted price and they would send the opened cartridges back to the supplier as defects. Only after getting confirmation from the supplier would they refund us. I don't understand why the supplier has to be brought into this in the first place because it was not them that sold us the cartridges.

Since the 18th of April 2021 we have not heard a single whisper about receiving back a refund and I have made several calls to the person who I dealt with in the store. His standard response is he is waiting to hear back from someone else.

It is now the 15th of May, almost a month later and still I haven't heard back. The cartridges are not cheap, yet I was really surprised to see how carelessly the staff at ComputerMania would sell you cartridges and not make sure that it is the right cartridge. As a customer you do not expect that you would receive the wrong products from a company that deals with these types of things everyday.

Was I careless in just opening up the cartridges? Maybe I was, but surely there must be a more amicable solution that ComputerMania could have provided, considering that they deal with these products everyday. If we were given the wrong cartridges, surely others may have been given the wrong cartridges too and if this was an isolated case then surely ComputerMania can refund that amount. If it is a more frequent occurrence, I would not recommend ComputerMania as a ink cartridge seller.

It is actually very disappointing because up until now we have been happy with their service and products. It is very sad when something that should have been dealt with quite simply has become a sore point.
