Hearing Test Claim Unpaid by Scheme

In December 2017 we took our 6-year-old son for a comprehensive hearing test, believing that Compcare would pay for the test from Risk, and not the Medical Savings Account. Our basis for this was the two statements in the 2017 Symmetry ED Information and Benefit Guide - which, I should add, is the de facto communique sent to all Compcare Members to help determine benefits, exclusions, co-payments, contributions, and other important details. This was also affirmed to be the case by Compcare, mentioning the we should not use the information on the Website, but rather the Guides and official emailed correspondence only.

Exctracts from 2017 Symmetry ED Guide:

- Statement 1: page 7: "All wellness and preventative benefits are paid from risk and will not impact your savings account (PMSA) unless otherwise specified". - Statement 2: page 7: "Preventatitve benefits - Wellness Checks - Hearing and eye tests - one hearing and eye test for pre-school children aged 5 to 6 years".

Next thing we heard was that Compcare refused to pay for the hearing test from Risk, because such payments supposedly only app**** for "a screening test, not a comprehensive test".

My wife, who is the Main Member, has had numerous unseccessful fights with Compcare (Jenny van Vooren) to try and get the Scheme to understand that NOWHERE in the official correspondence sent to us does it say the cover is only for "a screening test". This should be quite evident to anyone who can read, from the transcribed text above. Yet, it seems Compcare is hellbent on simply ignoring us and forcing us to pay the Specialist.

This is, of course, unacceptable. If the Scheme only pays for a "screening test" under such conditions, then surely this must be STATED in the official correspondence sent to all Members? How elese are we supposed to know this?

It will be interesting to see the reply from Compcare to this Hellopeter complaint, as all other avenues have failed thus far.

Reviewer Update
Some amazing about-turns made by Compcare following this complaint, with acknowledgment of the confusion caused by inaccurate information in the Brochure, which will apparently now be rectified. The Scheme has now paid for the Hearing Test in full. A big thank you to Michelle Conradie, the Scheme Fund Manager, who took on this problem and solved the entire matter in no time at all - very helpful and clearly motivated to assist Scheme Members with their problems. Now if only we had the same level of support via the Help Desk (especially the very unhelpful Jenny van Vooren), which is clearly not always clued up or willing to support customers.
