Not getting the qualification that was registerd paid and studied for.

<p>My son Werner Scriven just completed his course Events Management Advanced Diploma – Entertainment Events Management.</p> <p> </p> <p>My problem is now that Werner completed his course I must find out the course name was changed to “Expert Certificate in Events Management/ Entertainment Events”</p> <p> </p> <p>This is a big problem as I enrolled my son in a Diploma course advertised by College SA at the time of enquiring and enrolling not for a certificate.</p> <p>This is the compleet corospndance with them.</p> <p>I must say it is really a struggle with this people I simply cannot get them to send me the written instruction from the Education Department regarding the name change from Diploma to Certificate but have received the last mail from them it seems that there was no formal document regarding this.</p> <p> </p> <p>I had a call last week from the Nadine lady a Manager wanting to repay me certain amount of the fees for all of this problems and I said that I will come back to them for I must first consult .</p> <p> </p> <p>Needless to say they say that they have send me a proof or no proof that a circular letter was send to me regarding the name change that I did not open according to them , mail and circular also included in this mail this is strange that this important change was communicated in a general circular as such important info needs to be directly communicated to the parents and person responsible for the study fees ,the summary just indicated some mail came to me on that day 5/08/2016 and then they attached the circular letter to their feedback no proof that this circular letter was actually attached to this mail.</p> <p> </p> <p>1.My problem is that Werner was enrolled for a Diploma course and at the end of his studies we must find out that the course was changed to an Expert Certificate.</p> <p>2. On 31/08/2017 I received a proof of registration from them that was needed by my medical aid to confirm that Werner were still a student dependent and on this letter it still indicated he was studying towards a Diploma Edward Meinderstma dated 16/02/2017 he stated that the course name was changed somewhere in August last year.</p> <p>3. We needed to conduct a thorough investigation into all the facts surrounding the concerns which you raised.</p> <p> </p> <p>I would like to start off by confirming that your son registered with us on this date: 09 December 2015, for the non-accredited course Events Management Advanced Diploma: Entertainment Events.</p> <p> </p> <p>Towards the middle of 2016, all Private Colleges that offered non-accredited courses were contacted by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) regarding legislation that prohibited the use of certain restricted terminology, for example, 'Diploma', 'Advanced Certificate', 'Certificate' etc.</p> <p> </p> <p>We were informed that the DHET would no longer allow this terminology to be app**** to non-accredited courses and that they could only be used for accredited National Qualifications registered on the National Qualifications Framework. In addition, the DHET informed providers that they would take a zero-tolerance approach to this new enforcement, and that all providers that failed to adhere to this would be de-registered and placed on their 'Bogus College' list. Most colleges, thankfully, changed the naming conventions of their non-accredited courses. However, there are still a few less-than-reputable colleges that are still claiming to offer 'Diploma' courses when they do not have the permission to do so.</p> <p> </p> <p>The College Directors naturally wanted to remain fully compliant with all legislative requirements. However, we were concerned of the potential impact of the name-changes (to the non-accredited course). We urgently arranged a series of face-to-face meetings with the very highest members of the DHET to discuss the various options. We indicated to them that the process of completely changing the names would be quite a time-consuming process (it would take several months to change every course name on every page on our websites), and that this could affect students who were not yet complete with their courses, and who would hence receive an award with a title different to what they registered for.</p> <p> </p> <p>The DHET were insistent that we comply fully with the instructions, however, they understood that the process of re-naming the courses would take quite some time. Hence, they agreed to our College implementing the name changes over a period of time, comprising various stages. Every week, we had to send a report to the DHET indicating to them our progress with re-doing our website, and, the progress of our students still on those specific courses.</p> <p> </p> <p>The DHET urged us to inform our students of the name changes by no later than October 2016. Because our students are distance learning students and we cannot provide them with documents in class, it was decided to email our student corpus regarding the changes. The students were emailed in batches - so as to allow sufficient time for any questions or concerns.</p> <p> </p> <p>According to our records, your son received his email regarding these changes on 05/08/2016. The email that we sent it to is ********** . This is the email address that we have on record for your son. For the duration of the period that the emails were being sent out, we created a special team of senior-level staff members to assist with any queries arising as a result of the email.</p> <p> </p> <p>All emails and queries pertaining thereto, were attended to by October 2016. From November 2016, the College began changing the names on all affiliated documentation - statement of results, invoices, proof of studies, etc. As you can imagine, due to the sheer volume of course names to be changed, this was not a process that could be completed overnight. Thus, it makes sense why in October of 2016, your son still received a proof of registration document containing the old course name Events Management Advanced Diploma - Entertainment Events Management. And, unfortunately, we have still discovered one or two instances of the outdated name being used on various pages etc.</p> <p> </p> <p>Please be assured that we do understand your confusion, and we are sorry that you feel that the information provided to you thus far has been 'unacceptable'. As we explained to our students and their parents, no changes were made to the content or academic level of the courses. However, we were legally required to change the names of these courses. And, by default, we had to change the naming conventions used on the awards that our students receive after completing their courses.</p> <p> </p> <p>We are legally no longer allowed to issue any Diploma awards. To do so would be in contravention of the DHET and of pertinent legislation. We unfortunately cannot provide your son with a Diploma - doing so would be a ******** act, and one that would have serious negative implications for the College.</p> <p> </p> <p>We truly do regret any inconvenience caused by the name changes.</p> <p> </p> <p>As a College, we did our very best to minimise the impact of these name changes - by implementing these changes over a period of time, and, by waiting for as many students as possible to complete their courses before making the final implementations.
