Pricing Discrepancy

While I'm a big supporter of the sugar tax, it seems you guys and the retailers in South Africa are playing us for fools. I applaud the fact that sugar sodas have increased by roughly 15% at my local reatilers. However, what is NOT ON is that the price of sugar free drinks like Coke Zero and Sprite Zero have been increased accordingly and are now the same price as the sugary alternatives. How is this possible and do the likes of Coke and Pick nPay take us for fools?? Please try and justify this......

Dear Sir/Madam
Thank you for raising the concerns noted below.
Coca-Cola Beverage South Africa (CCBSA) is a franchised bottler of the Coca-Cola Company and as such does not set pricing for the South Africa market. Wholesale pricing is determined by the franchisor and is provided to the bottling system for implementation across all customers.
CCBSA recognises governments concerns pertaining to obesity and we are working very hard on developing solutions which will reduce the daily calorie intake of consumers. We have already made good progress with many of our customers in making our “Light” portfolio more affordable for shoppers. CCBSA is currently engaging all the Grocery chains in this regards and we are confident that our retail partners will reflect this on their shelves shortly.
Thank you.
