Bonaqua bottle cap too tight to open

I cannot open my Bonaqua bottle of still water as the lid is so tightly secured. I even used a knife to remove the "locking"/seal ring, but still can't open. This is not the first. The other one I open spilled all over me as I had to hold the bottle so hard to counter the force I was applying to the cap. This is frustrating and hurts my hand...and sometimes teeth.
