BE WARNED AND PROCEED WITH CAUTION

I have thought long an hard about sending this message and it has taken me 6 months to do so after the most dreadful car purchase in my life.

I bought a Land Rover from CMH Nissan, which came with the Pre Approved Nissan quality check. After purchasing the car and taking it for its first service the Land Rover specialist told me that the car definitely did not only have 20 odd thousand kilometres and probably had about 200 000 thousand kilometres as all the bushes had to be replaced, and the diff oil was so black that it was not dissimilar to a car that they service at 200 000.

At this stage I started asking questions of the dealer principal John. He offered no solutions or compensation for the stress and issues around this car as well as never took accountability for the fact that his “thorough” check did not pick this up. Instead his excuse was that I had checked the car and therefore should’ve picked this up. I approached him several times after and he never offered a solution.

Sometime shortly after, my clutched failed and I took it to another Land Rover specialist who told me exactly the same thing. In fact after changing the front gasket cover twice they suspected that this cars engine had been rebuilt. After contacting Land Rover, they confirmed that the engine had in-fact been opened and worked on but were unclear and vague about anything else. I contacted John again and again he ignored me and in the end never returned my call or request for a solution.

At this stage … 6 months in…. I have spent over 59 thousand rand in repairs and currently the car is in at the 3rd specialist because the clutch packed up, driver door internals are loose and falling apart, front coils are the same as a car with 200 000 kilometres on, the fan cover is missing, engine has a rough idle not dissimilar to one that needs the injectors replaced … and the list goes one.

This is has been the most incredibly painful journey and I would WARN ANYONE WHO IS BUYING A CAR FROM THEM TO PROCEED WITH EXTREME CAUTION.

THESE PEOPLE DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU. YOU ARE A NUMBER AND MECHANISM TO HIT SALES TARGETS AND MAKE MONEY.
