<p>NB! NEVER, I repeat, EVER, sign a contract from City Properties. You will most definitely be in for a lot more than you bargained for.</p> <p>City Property has provided THE worst service I have ever encountered. I was so excited to rent a flat in a complex called Tiny Town in Eastwood. The friendly estate agent (Lawrence) informed me that we would only be liable for the payment of rent and electricity. After my application for residence got accepted by city properties I was told to immediately pay my deposit and first months rent BEFORE I had even ironed out the obvious kinks in the contract.</p> <p>The legal Department of City Properties was extremely unfriendly and refused to negotiate the clauses of the contract, some of which made absolutely no sense at all. Some of the ridiculous clauses in the contract stated that the lessee is to pay towards fees, amongst others, property rates and taxes (clause 5). Surely it can’t be the intention for lessees to be responsible for these payments. Clauses also make the lessee responsible for the payment of water, sewerage, refuse removal and the upkeep of the common property. What the actual?! Who pays for all these as a tenant? I was told before I signed the contract that I only needed to pay electricity! The contract also says I am responsible for the security of the complex. WHY then is it advertised as a security complex? The contract says no open flames but there are fireplaces BUILT IN to the flats! Common guys...</p> <p>How completely obtuse must one be to not even negotiate these terms with the lessee when this is a recycled contract from your other properties? The clauses are NOT APPLICABLE here. You are so eager to take my money to "secure my application" but nobody is willing to take 5 seconds to listen to these concerns.</p> <p>City Properties you cannot continue like this. I just drove past Tiny Town complex and it is still 100% empty, it is so obvious why.</p>
