No power

I am deeply disappointed and hurt by City Property. Words can’t fully express the frustration I feel. We’ve been without electricity at Reuben’s place since Saturday, and what makes it even worse is the complete lack of communication. We have no idea what the issue is or when power will be restored.

It feels like you simply don’t care about us as tenants. You’re living comfortably, with electricity in your homes, while our children have to wake up at 5 a.m. and bathe in freezing water during this harsh winter. I can tolerate it myself, but expecting a child to endure that is simply inhumane.

On top of that, all the food in our fridge has gone bad — the meat, the groceries — everything is ruined. The question is: are you going to pay us back for that? I can’t speak for others, but personally, I’ve never missed a single month of rent. So why are we being treated this way?

Are you also going to reimburse us for the money we’ve had to spend on takeaways every single day since the electricity went out? This entire situation is unfair and unacceptable.

But what hurts the most is your silence. The fact that you haven’t even reached out or given us an update shows just how little you value us as tenants.

Dear Aphelele Jabavu,

Our Customer Service representative tried contacting you to acknowledge and discuss the matter. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and frustration this is causing. The power outages are unfortunately beyond our control as we rely on City of Tshwane for supply and services. We are continuously liaising with Council to provide us with updates and restore the electricity.

We have been sending communication via SMS and you may have not received them because they're being sent to the lease holder. Please note that we have been informed that technicians are onsite and have started to drain the water as flooding was reported to be the cause of the outage. We have still not yet received the estimated time of restoration and will continue to provide updates as and when received.

Kind regards,
City Property Support Team
