How much do you think I should pay?
<p>Once upon a time our account was in credit. In fact it was in credit for about 6 months. And then one month the credit just vanished and the bill was R30 000. Yes you read that right.... and that was where the **** literally hit the fan and the snowball started rolling down the hill and turned into an avalanche! Since then for every month of the past almost 2 years we have been paying city power an amount of R10000 or more a month to try to sort out this electricity fiasco. We are 2 adults and 2 kids under 6 who live in our house. We no longer use heaters, we all leave the house at 7 in the morning and come back after 5 in the evening. And yes I do have someone who does the washing and ironing for me, but every month we attempt to scale back on the amount of electricity that we use because without fail every month we will be charged more and more for electricity. In December we went away for 4 weeks and when we came back our electricity bill was still exactly the same and they tell us that it is actuals. They put in a fancy smart meter which I think has just made our situation worse. No one can help us get a prepaid meter! And then to top it all off today, we get a call to say that now they are switching off our electricity. So after standing in your endless queues and logging complaints and paying exorbitant amounts of money you are going to switch off our electricity so that when we get home tonight, my poor children won't have a warm bath or meal because ******ing over R200 000 out of us is not enough. You want more? Maybe I should tell my employer to pay my salary straight into your bank account?</p> <p>On a monthly basis where I work, the electricity bill is half of what we are being charged for a residence which is empty for almost 12 hours of the day and where we sleep for 8 hours. That leaves 4 hours of electricity use! This is becoming ridiculous city power. Can you really do this to us? Is it because it is yet again another monopoly that we have no choice but to suffer and pay you? </p> <p>I think I will take my hard earned money and invest in solar power! </p> <p>How do we get this sorted out? Maybe we should organise a march? </p>
