******* Bridging of Electricity Connection

We own a house in Eldoraigne X 18 in Centurion, Tshwane. In Sep 2023 we had a problem with our electricity meter outstand our house. After many calls and much frustration, the electricity department sent a technician to fix the problem. According to the technician the outside meter was faulty but did not have a spare to replace it. However, to resolve the problem she somehow reconnected the power. Unknowing to us, she must have bridged the power to temporarily solve our problem. To escalate our problem, we were subsequently not able to purchase electricity, but somehow had electricity available. We immediately reported the problem in October 2023, but to no avail. Subsequently we made various calls and visited the electricity department to resolve the problem, but also to no avail!! Dates, time and names are available to counter check.

To our dismay we received a penalty of R 27,000 in March 2024 and our electricity disconnected for bridging the electricity *******ly!!!! Then the fight started. About 30 emails later, even correspondence with the Mayor of Tshwane and the area DA councilor, but to no avail. We even supp**** a sworn affidavit that we did not tamper with the box and submitted a Dispute Form just to be informed that the penalty will remain. But not even a consideration or interview to resolve the problem. We are even prepared to undergo a lie detector test at our cost to proof our innocence!!

Subsequently we also learnt that the same scenario happened to another home owner in the area. This is unacceptable and points to an illicit method of making money from honest law abiding citizens that have always promptly settle their monthly rates and taxes!!!!
