COMPLAINT ABOUT CITY POWER AND CITY OF JOHANNESBURG

In February 2020 we advise the City of Joburg that we had installed a borehole and that we would no longer be using municipal water. They were given a letter from the borehole installer that we were now connected to the borehole and a photograph of the meter reading at cut off date on 13 February 2020. On 10 March 2020 our water meter was read by City of Joburg who confirmed the reading being the actual reading and we paid our statement for lights and water in full, including water in full. We continued to receive estimates for water which was queried and eventually on 11 October 2020 we received an email from City of Joburg saying that the query had been resolved. However we still received estimates for water which we were advised not to pay. On Wednesday morning 14 April 2021 our electricity was cut. No warning notice just a very rude man telling us he had cut us off, as were we in arrears to for over R30 000.00. We have paid our electricity every month and on time. The overdue amount is for water which we have not used and for which we should not be charged. I called the DA councillor for our ward, Mr Neuren Pietersen, and asked him what I could do to resolve this issue. He gave me an email address at City of Joburg, telling me to send all relevant documents to them and to send him a copy of the email and attachments. This I did and I received an email from City of Joburg, which was also sent to Mr Pietersen, and which states as follows “Kindly make an arrangement after apply for pre-paid electricity and removal of the water meter”. Mr Pietersen was of absolutely no help. This is not acceptable nor will it resolve the issue or remove our “debt”.
