INDIVIDUALS CLAIMING TO BE CITY OF CAPE TOWN AGENTS SELLING CHEAP RDP HOUSES TO VULNERABLE PEOPLE

I AM SO DISAPOINTED IN THE CITY OF CAPE TOWN!!!

My name is Noluthando, and I am writing to you because I am at my wits end, I don't know where else to turn, perhaps someone here can help me! My husband and I live in a township in Cape Town called Khayelitsha. I am sure you have heard of the bad reputation this place has been given due to the high level of crime here. It is for this reason that my husband and I were looking to buy a place of our own in a suburb outside of Khayelitsha, where we could raise our child, hence, we decided on Montana.

It is a relatively nice suburb with better infrastructure and proximity to the N2 highway from travel. We found out about this City of Cape Town (CoCT) advert that was going all around the internet, Tiktok, FaceBook, inviting people for a meet and greet, saying that we could buy a house directly from them as agents who work for the CoCT. So we reached out to the individuals and arranged to meet with them in February 2024. Their details are as follows:

PS: Bear in mind, these mobile numbers are still active since we tried calling this morning, but the phone just rings as they do not answer the calls.

We bought a house from these guys who claim to work for the CoCT, selling RDP HOUSES for R87,000.00. At the time we had some money that was paid out to our family as beneficiaries of a family fund. So, we bought the house for that price, R87,000.00 in early February of this year, 2024. We are a small family of very little means and this has hit us very, very hard.

Since then, the guys have disappeared, not responding to phone calls, and have refused to give us back our money. This terrible situation underscores the plight that many vulnerable, disadvantaged South Africans such as ourselves, face. My question is if this really is a ****, what is CoCT doing about it to ensure that this thing NEVER happens, and surely there should be more accountability and vetting of the staff?
