City of Capetown does not give a damn
I am writing to express my deep concern and frustration regarding the recent suspension of water services at my residence, which occurred on Friday, 23 February 2024. This abrupt action left my family, including young children, stranded without access to water, knowing that nothing can be done on a weekend. I understand that we were in arrears, but the city was getting in excess of R3500+ from us every month by recouping the money from the electricity that we purchased. While the average person was getting 40 units from R100 electricity purchased, we were only getting 9 units.
On Monday, 26 February 2024 at 10am, in response to the City's demand, we promptly made a payment of R4,000 to have our water services restored. We were assured that the reconnection would take place by Monday evening. However, as of today Wednesday 20:45pm on 28 August 2024, the City has failed to fulfill this commitment, leaving us without water for an extended and unacceptable period.
The failure to restore our water services as promised is a severe violation of our basic human rights and has significantly impacted our dignity as a family. It is particularly distressing given that we have comp**** with all the requirements imposed by the City. The lack of communication and accountability in addressing this matter is deeply concerning.
