CITY of Cape Town's Electricity Fault reporting department is pathetic

We have been without power in our street for over 2 weeks now. We lost power on the 27th of June in our street. We emailed, smsed, and phone the city of Cape Town on a daily basis and always received the same automated response of them being inundated with loads of reports due to weather conditions. After 10 days of being ignored, they finally sent people to have a look at the problem last Friday the 7th of July 2023. We again had the same electricity fault on Sunday the 9th of July. We again reported the fault. We received a response Monday morning from a Jade Hawyn who advised a team had been dispatched to our area. Nothing happened on the 10th of July. I again sent a report request on the 11th of July and had to provide the same info of where I reside and I was given a reference number. Last night one of the electricity power poles caught fire. The City OF CAPE TOWN still has not arrived to have a look at the problem.

I reside in Samora Machel. The CITY of CAPE TOWN does not care about its lower-class citizens. I shudder to think that residents in the more affluent areas receive the same lack of care and service. We pay for electricity just like all the residents in Cape town and our plight should be given the same urgency. DO BETTER Geordin HILL and employees. Treat everyone equally

Good morning,

The reference number you have provided indicates that this was only logged yesterday and is still in process. We require the previous reference numbers to follow up on this.

Thank you.
TQ

Good day,
The first reference number is: ***, I was told that it expired a couple of days after it was logged. I was given a 2nd one *** provided on the 30th of June. I now have the one from yesterday *** .

Should you require a copy of all the smses sent to you as well as the emails sent I have that as well.

I hope this will be sorted out today and not merely a response to save a public image.
Please stop sending the same automated response when we follow up it does nothing to assist families out in the cold with no power and makes the city look nonchalant and *********** to say the least.

We have yet to receive a response from the city regarding fixing the power in our area. I am not surprised that we have not received any. The past few weeks have proven how disorganized the City of Cape Town is. The worst part is paying for a service and not receiving it. The lack of service and care displayed by the City goes against the basic humanity provisions enshrined in our constitution and yet the CCT dares claim to be the Best run city in SA. I again sent sms and again received the same "automated response of our reference number being in progress. Progress means an action is being taken, in this case, no action is taking place just another lie. Can someone do their job and go fix our power issue. Not even a single person came to check on the explosion with the pole that happened on Sunday. DO SOMETHING

Dear resident,

The electricity supply has been restored to the affected street in the area.  An electricity supply line cable joint was damaged due to the recent inclement weather.

Over recent weeks, City teams attended to a high number of electricity service requests triggered by weather, load-shedding and secondary tripping across the metro. The City apologies for any inconvenience caused while our teams attended to the fault in your area.

It is important for residents to note that electricity services are delayed in hotspot areas at times, when it is not safe for electricity officials to enter the area.

The City appoints security to accompany many of its basic service delivery staff, such as electricity staff and contractors, while attending to repair work in some areas. However, it is not always possible for security to assist our staff. While the City remains committed to providing services to all areas in the metro, the safety of members of staff and contractors remains of utmost consideration.

Customers are requested to report outages via the City’s service channels to alert the technicians to intervene.

For service requests (please only log on one channel and do not log the same request multiple times):
Call Centre: ***
SMS: 31220 (Please note the free SMS service does not apply)
Email: ***

The City once again apologises for any inconvenience caused.
