CITY OF CAPE TOWN HAS MY MONEY AND NOT ALLOWING ME TO BUY ELECTRICITY
⚠️ URGENT COMPLAINT – CITY OF CAPE TOWN MUNICIPALITY ⚠️
I am absolutely disgusted and frustrated with the service from the City of Cape Town Municipality!
Yes, our municipal account was overdue — and on Friday, we phoned to find out the exact amount we needed to pay to have the ***gyback removed from our electricity meter. We were told the balance was R2521, which we paid in full (R2522) on Saturday.
The lady we spoke to promised that once the payment reflected, the ***gyback would be removed. Since then, I have made multiple follow-up calls — including one on Sunday — and every single person I spoke to confirmed the same thing: the balance was R2521, and that once it reflected, our electricity meter would go back to normal.
However, this has not happened.
Right now, every time we buy electricity, 71% of it gets taken, and we only receive 29%. I am effectively paying for electricity that I cannot use, and City of Cape Town is sitting with my money!
To make matters worse, my husband went to the municipality in person this morning — and now suddenly there’s a new balance of R1268.21 that nobody mentioned before!
How is it possible that every person gives a different balance? How can a customer do the right thing, pay what they are told, and still be left without electricity?
We did what we were asked to do. We paid what we were told to pay. And now we’re being told to wait another 48 hours while we sit here without electricity — after already paying!
This is unacceptable, ***********, and unfair to paying residents.
I will be posting this complaint on every platform possible until someone from the City of Cape Town takes responsibility and sorts this out immediately.
@CityofCT – Please explain how this is acceptable service? How can you leave a household without power after payment has been made and confirmed multiple times?
All I want is for our electricity to be restored and the ***gyback removed, as promised.
