Urgent Escalation – Unresolved Gearbox Warning Lights & Vehicle Immobilisation – Chery Tiggo 4 Pro (Plumstead Workshop)
Urgent Escalation – Unresolved Gearbox Warning Lights & Vehicle Immobilisation – Chery Tiggo 4 Pro (Plumstead Workshop)Dear Chery SA Customer Care / HQ Team, @SA_Chery I am writing to formally escalate an ongoing and now critical issue with my Chery Tiggo 4 Pro that was reported to Chery Care / the Plumstead Workshop less than a month ago.Summary of the issue:Intermittent gearbox-related warning lights were reported. The only action taken was a software update. The problem has not been resolved and has significantly worsened. Warning lights now appear 3–4 times per week. On 30 April 2025 the vehicle would no longer drive at all.
I no longer feel safe driving this vehicle and have lost confidence in its reliability. I rely on the car daily, and this situation is severely affecting my ability to travel safely.I request the following as a matter of urgency:Immediate collection / recovery of the vehicle (or confirmation of towing arrangements under warranty/roadside assistance). Full diagnostic investigation beyond a software update, with a clear written report of findings. Provision of a courtesy vehicle while repairs are carried out. Confirmation of the expected resolution timeline and warranty coverage for the gearbox issue.
Please acknowledge receipt of this email and provide a reference number together with the next steps and a contact person who will handle the case.I look forward to your prompt response.
- Jacques Fryer emails David: Confirms they will collect the vehicle the next day (13 Aug, between 10:00–11:00) for diagnostic testing and return it the same day. Asks if the vehicle has recently been used for towing (Tiggo 4 capacity only 750 kg).
- David replies: Confirms no towing in the last two years. Agrees to collection. Requests confirmation of a courtesy vehicle.
- Jacques confirms a courtesy vehicle will be provided and the diagnostic will take about one hour.
- Vehicle collected for diagnostics.
- David chases the driver by phone/WhatsApp ***) to open the gate.
- Discussion between Mel (David’s wife) and Derek Peek.
- Derek confirms an error has been identified.
- He is in contact with Chery SA Head Office, which has requested additional testing.
- Testing expected to be completed by Monday 17 August, after which a full report would be submitted to Chery SA.
- Mel specifically asks for this confirmation in writing.
- David emails chasing for the promised written update, report, or findings. Notes that the only communication received has been about the courtesy vehicle (the first one was sold and replaced).
- Derek replies that he will send a relevant update before close of business that day.
- Derek Peek sends formal update:
- Fault code confirmed as P084200 – Transmission Fluid Pressure Sensor/Switch “A” Circuit Low / short to ground.
- Instructions from Chery/Launch diagnostics: Interrogate the sensor and trace the individual wiring between the sensor, transmission, and engine management control units.
- This requires removal of the engine wiring harness.
- Continuity testing is in progress to determine whether the harness is intact or whether only the sensor needs replacement.
- David sends urgent follow-up (7 days with no further response). Requests status of:
- Gearbox diagnostic and wiring tests.
- Whether the pressure sensor has been confirmed as the fault and when it will be replaced.
- Expected completion date.
- Progress on the tear in the driver’s seat.
- Derek replies: Seat repair will be completed the next day. Oil pressure sensor expected by Friday 28 August. Vehicle possibly ready by Monday 31 August.
- Oil pressure sensor due to arrive.
- Seat tear repaired.
- On/around 31 August the vehicle covers only approximately 21 km.
- Thereafter the vehicle appears to remain largely stationary (customer notes this should be verifiable from the vehicle’s tracker).
- David emails Jacques Fryer expressing deep concern.
- Notes that he was previously told a feedback report was being prepared for Chery SA Head Office and that further testing would take place.
- He has now been informed that the gearbox concern and warning light “could not be replicated.”
- Questions how only ~21 km driven on 31 August can confirm the underlying intermittent problem has been resolved, given the earlier confirmed P084200 fault and planned wiring investigation.
- Jacques Fryer replies: Understands the concern. If the diagnostic tool picks up nothing, he suggests a three-day driving test in which Derek will drive the car home and to work for the rest of the week to see if the light comes on.
- David immediately replies asking for clear written answers before any further testing:
- What was found after the 19 August wiring/continuity investigation?
- What work or repairs were actually carried out?
- Was the fault repaired, or has it simply not been reproduced?
- Why was the vehicle not driven from 31 August to 9 September?
- David also escalates the same questions in writing to Chery SA HQ / Customer Care / customer experience, requesting their assistance to obtain clear answers from the dealership before the vehicle is released for any further testing.
The owner still has no written explanation of what was discovered during the planned invasive wiring/harness investigation, whether any parts (sensor or harness) were actually replaced, or why meaningful road testing did not take place after 31 August.
