We are currently in the process of purchasing a vehicle from a Chery dealership, and I feel compelled to bring to light a deeply concerning issue that should be investigated immediately by Chery South Africa and their head office.

After receiving a formal written quotation for a vehicle, we signed the quote and were in the process of transferring the deposit. During this stage, the Chery team discovered an error on their side: a R15,000 discrepancy in the quoted price. This mistake was entirely theirs, which they have admitted in writing.

Despite this admission and multiple attempts to resolve the matter amicably — including referencing the Consumer Protection Act, Act 68 of 2008 — the dealership refused to honour the agreed-upon price. Specifically, Section 23(3) and (5) of the CPA states that a price as displayed, quoted, or advertised binds the supplier, and if a consumer has already accepted that price, it must be honoured unless it was an obvious and unmistakable error — which this was not. Furthermore, the quote was formal, written, and signed, establishing clear intent and agreement.

This conduct is not only ********* but also a blatant disregard of South African consumer rights. It sets a worrying precedent for how potential customers may be treated during what should be a transparent and fair transaction process.

I urge Chery South Africa to take this matter seriously and investigate the actions of this dealership. This experience has significantly damaged our trust in the Chery brand, and unless corrected, it will certainly influence our decision to proceed with any future purchase.

Consumers deserve better. Do better, Chery.
