Brand New Chery Tiggo 4 Pro – Endless Faults, Unsafe Vehicle & No Resolution

I purchased a brand new 2024 Chery Tiggo 4 Pro Urban Manual in July 2024 from Chery Richards Bay, and my experience since then has been nothing short of a nightmare.

Within the first 10 months (around 15 000 km), the vehicle already required a wheel bearing replacement. From there, the problems only escalated.

I experienced repeated brake failures, including warped discs multiple times, along with issues with the wiper system. The vehicle has been back and forth to the dealership on numerous occasions, often for extended periods, with repairs taking weeks or even months due to parts delays and poor communication.

Despite multiple repair attempts, the same issues keep returning. Each time the vehicle is returned, I am told it is “fixed,” only for new problems to appear almost immediately.

More recently, the situation has become far more serious:

Suspension components (including control arm) failed at low mileage. Steering became misaligned after repairs. Vehicle pulls to one side. Wheel alignment revealed camber is completely out and cannot be adjusted. No record of alignment being done despite the technician claiming it was.

I was forced to drive the vehicle in this unsafe condition on the highway due to a lack of support from the dealership.

The vehicle was eventually taken to the dealership on a rollback. I was then told it had been repaired to manufacturer specification, only to arrive for a test drive and find the problem still present. The technician admitted he had not been properly informed of the issue.

A temporary fix was done, but within 4 days the noise returned, worse than before.

I was then informed that an entirely new brake caliper needed to be ordered. Initially I was told it would take 2 weeks, then 10-20 working days, and now there is no ETA at all as the part is on back order.

This means the vehicle cannot currently be repaired.

Throughout this process:

The dealer principal has been unresponsive and unwilling to assist. Communication has been poor and inconsistent. I have had to repeatedly follow up for updates. I have had to arrange my own transport and take time off work. I have incurred additional fuel costs travelling long distances to the dealership. My tyres are wearing prematurely due to unresolved alignment issues.

Most concerning of all, I no longer feel safe driving this vehicle. The noise from the front right wheel is getting worse daily, and we have had to cancel travel plans due to fear of a breakdown or accident.

I escalated the matter to Chery South Africa, requesting a fair resolution or assisted exit from the vehicle due to its ongoing defects. This was declined, and I was instead assured that the vehicle would be repaired to manufacturer specification.

At present, that is clearly not possible due to the lack of parts and ongoing failed repairs.

I am left paying for a vehicle that is unreliable, unsafe, and cannot be properly fixed, with no clear resolution in sight.

I would strongly caution anyone considering purchasing a Chery vehicle to think very carefully. My experience has been one of ongoing mechanical failure, poor service, and a complete lack of accountability.
