Spam enabler
Centracom is frequently listed as the provider for spam phone calls I receive.
I use a free app on iPhone named SimpleCallBlocker, which allows to you block ranges of numbers, which I do for the whole number range for incoming spam.
If any legitimate business needs to contact me with a Centracom number, I'll tell them they'll need to switch providers if they want to phone me.

Centracom, like Telkom, Vodacom, and MTN, is a “Tier One” VoIP carrier that provides services to telecoms wholesalers who in turn issue numbers to their clients. These clients comprise many of the large banks, insurance companies, and call centres.
We do not have visibility of the actual end-user and cannot identify who made a call with one of our numbers, or even to which end-user the number was issued.
Telkom, MTN, Vodacom, etc. are in the same position, and none of us can be held responsible for the actions of users of our networks.
The call(s) in question may have been from our network, however, the number from which the call came would have been issued to one of our wholesale clients, who in turn would have issued it to one of their clients.
Centracom cannot in terms of the POPI Act, divulge the name of the wholesaler to anyone, however, our team will be in contact with you to obtain additional information on the calls you've received. We will then immediately contact the relevant wholesale company and instruct them to request their client to cease and desist from calling you. We cannot act further than this.

26 Jul 2024, 15:05Thanks for the well-crafted response .. It is a sad reality that the enforcement agencies and regulators in South Africa are hopelessly incapable of protecting consumers despite all the well-meaning laws like RICA, POPI and CPA.
My mobile phone is practically unusable due to 99% of inbound calls being from some Robocall or spam call center - despite being on the DMA do-no-contact list, and sending removal requests wherever I can identity the caller.
All information I have available about these spam calls, is the network provider listed by Truecaller, hence my personal policy of blocking the whole number range identified from that provider and posting instructions for others to do the same on the most visible public forum I can find.
If enough people start doing that, it will start to be in the wholesale providers commercial interest to implement effective safeguards to prevent their networks being used to break the law ( I can 100% guarantee that your customers are not using my personal information legally, as I would have never given such permission).
