******** transaction
On 17 July 2022 I traded in my Huawei P30 (almost 4 years old 3550 mAh battery capacity) for a Samsung S22 (3700 mAh battery capacity) at Cellucity Mall of Africa.
Immediately upon purchase I noticed that the phones battery life barely lasted and that the phone was heating up but I attributed this to the many updates that the phone was undergoing so I didn't report it immediately.
By 20 July 2022 when I realized that my brand new device couldn't give me more than 5 hours off a full battery and that the device was unexplainablely getting hot I called the consultant that sold me the phone to let her know I was terribly worried and would be returning the device either for a new device or for the reversal of the entire transaction.
I got to the store on 22 July 2022 assuming that I had 7 days cooling off period after any purchase in order to return for an exchange or a refund. But I was made aware that the phone had to be taken in to the Vodacom Repair Centre to be evaluated before such a decision could be made. Please note whilst in store the phone heated once again and I made sure the consultant felt it and this was when I made it explicitly clear to the consultant who sold me the phone and the store owner (that I insisted we call) that I would not accept a repair for a brand new device.
I then asked for my old device back in the interim as the new device was taken in because I trusted my old phone (I was guaranteed a minimum of 9 hours from the phone's despite the age, running multiple applications at any given time and streaming music and/or videos, which was not even something I'd tried with the new phone but I already knew it wouldn't have the capacity to achieve) to my shock my old device was no longer available and i was given another Samsung as a loan for the week.
The loan phone proved to me that the new phone I had was a definite dud. It's battery life definitely outlasted the new one.
Cellucity MOA called, apparently no fault was found in the findings of the S22, a software update was performed and it was given back to me. Whilst performing the data switch in store the battery of my "new" device once again vanished from 99% to 55% in a space of 2 hours. It had heated once again and I made sure the consultant assisting me make note of this. I still gave the device the benefit of the doubt but after monitoring the phone over a 4 day period nothings changed from my initial discovery after buying the phone.
The battery life barely lasts, and this is on the least app activity I've ever had on a device. I'm yet to add all the apps I had on my previous phone, I am yet to stream music or videos off of it.
It's been 25 days, I've incurred Petrol expenses not to mention the time, energy and loss of data one goes through as a result of swopping from one phone to another.
I need CelluCity and Vodacom to be fair and note that this is an Out of box failure that was reported on time and give me what's due to me. I demand to either be given a new device or a full refund incl a reversal of the trade in as it us my right as a consumer
