Buying a Folding Device is for risk takers
Considering Cellucity is a front for PrO who pledges commitment “to the circular economy” it is quite comical that in the last neigh-on 2 weeks I’ve had an experience which is the opposite. Less than a month from recently purchasing a Z-Flip4 through their online store the screen protector started lifting (which is integral to the the screen maintaining its durability due to the nature of the device). After some calls, and an email I was promptly directed to a store for further assistance where the true unravelling of this experience began: 1. The store examined the device, by bending and unbending the device more times than I thought was necessary, causing the screen protector to continually continue to adhere and un adhere from the main panel with a rather distinct and disconcerting pop, before reapplying the screen protector with their nail. 2. Then once they confirmed it was indeed the screen protector lifting the manager of the store informed me that yes while that is not expected within a month of acquiring the device there’s nothing more that can be done but to replace the screen protector. This would be fine but the solution offered was not to the Samsung recommended replacement and instead a third party. 3. At informing them that the manufacturer explicitly WARNS against using such screen protectors on a display of my device as doing so will result in damage, I was told with quite the tone that screen protectors are a courtesy on devices which do not play a critical role to the device's correct functioning alongside being asked in a patronising tone what other devices do I know that come with a screen protector, before adding on that for all they know they don’t know if I damaged the device or what (despite the fact they quite literally inspected the device and found no such outcome) At this point I interjected and informed the store manager that her point was moot as firstly the device was not like other devices (I mean it literally folds and the horrors of improper use has shown to be big blows on such devices) and secondly that the phone literally shoots up a warning the first time you set it up to the importance of the screen protector and showed this message to her, and third that Samsung still has issues with their 1st party screen protectors killing screens sometimes. 4. At which point the store manager responded by saying, I should disregard those warnings by the manufacture and insinuated that her advice was better: that the screen protector is not important and if I thought it was important I can pay up for a 3rd party one and be on my way, or just go to the Samsung store if I want the one with less risk and more “peace of mind for yourself”. Adding the reminder at the time of this incident starting the device was barely a month old and as of this review it is less than 2 months old. 5. I didn’t find the assistance to be stellar to put it mildly and thus I reached out once more to the main online office, at which point I was promptly called back by the online store lady who agreed on this phone call that no such devices are sensitive and that the 3rd party machines are not ideal and that she would call me back once making a few calls. This was 28th august. 6. The following day the online store lady reached out once more and said that they need to speak to one or two more people because the protector on the phone that's on there at the moment is the one that actually should stay on and that putting on a different one as the one offered in store is not recommended. I was told that I will be reverted to soonest. 7. I followed up on September 4th and guess what I was back to square 1 and told the same thing told to me in store but now by this online store lady. However, she aimed to sweeten the deal of me paying to replace the protector within one month of ownership with no damage by stating she would get me a good price for the store local to me to honour and that the details would be sent to me. Despite the fact that it contradicts what she said initially and what the manufacturer recommends I was quite plainly defeated and wanted to just move on from having to deal with this company once and for all and yet, once again promises of action never materialised.
In conclusion the only thing I recommend you buy directly from Cellucity is anything new where you can go directly to the manufacturer for assistance. In terms of their PrO line of products, I wouldn’t touch with a telephone pole, rather go WeFix route or iStorePreowned for iDevices. If you want a folding device via PrO rather go through the 2nd hand market. That way you’ll will pay less by means of not paying for a 3-month warranty, worth its weight in ONE 1 cent coin, and laughable selling point of “Our PrO Premium Pre-Owned range undergoes a 40-point quality assessment.” as if any of the two were true my screen protector would not be lifting in a month of ownership and getting it sorted wouldn’t be by virtue of taking on the risk of damaging the device by using it for it’s designed purpose. At this point I don’t know if the issue is lack of communication from the real repair company to Cellucity or just a concerted effort from both but regardless. You have been warned.
