Don't waste your money with Vodacon Insurance administered by Cellsure

Last weekend my fiancé, accidentally dropped both our phones as we were rushing out the house, before she panicked I told her both devices are insured and we will get them repaired. After we finished with our errands we went to Vodaworld to book the phones in for repair.

After 2 hours of queuing we finally saw someone who with one look told us that, unfortunately the phones had to be replaced as it is too expensive to repair them. He processed whatever was required provided us with 2 documents for the Vodacom shop and sent us on our way.

We arrived at the Vodacom shop where we were informed Cellsure will be closing in less than 10 min we can submit now but will only get feedback on Monday. We agreed and left Vodaworld.

On Monday morning I return to Vodaworld to the beginning if the run around I would endure for the week, first the insurance company Cellsure claimed that some technicians report was missing from the insurance claim submitted on Saturday, and I had to go and wait at the Vodacom service centre to obtain it. Luckily I found a very helpful gentleman who helped me really quickly

Once the technicians report was submitted I was told that my claim was rejected because they need a proof of purchase, again I had to contact Vodacom (Monday 7th February) and request the proof of purchase which I finally received on Friday 10th February and submitted it at the Vodashop hoping this would be the end. But it was not..

After all that the insurance claims that I did not update my cover when I upgraded to my current contract in March 2015 so I am only covered for R9500 per device. Which is fine. I accepted and decided to try to move on from this.

So I went back to Vodaworld to the Vodashop to try get a phone and finalise this mess. But again I was met with more frustration first:

None of the apple smartphones cost less than R10000
If I take 2 lower quality phones the insurance (according to their terms and conditions) will own my 2 iPhone 6 126GB valued at double the pay-out.
In frustration I asked the Vodacom sales rep (who is the most disinterested Vodacom staff member I have ever spoken to) to either:

1) Combine the credit the insurance is providing to contribute to a new phone then I will purchase the second myself or

2) Pay me out in cash and I will buy both phones myself

She called Michael from Cellsure who told me I can only take a phone for the amount and nothing else.

Subsequently I have contacted the short term insurance Ombudsman and am in the process of laying a formal complaint. If you are interested in cell phone insurance it might be better to go with someone else. Cellsure is just not worth the headache. What’s worse is that I have loved being with Vodacom, I’ve never had an issue for the last 6 years I’ve really loved, Cellsure on the other had has left me with a bad taste in my mouth.
