Zero empathy in their relentless pursuit of profit

The 92 year old woman (my mother) died last week. Cell C have been taking money out of her account monthly for a cell phone not used since 2018 and which I personally tried to cancel through their website contact form in 2018. I never received a response and this year numerous communications happened with them insisting they needed to speak to my mother and physically take her into a Cell C shop in order to cancel the phone. Despite numerous details from me that she was approaching end of life fast, was in extreme pain, almost completely deaf and blind, had enormous difficulty in understanding anything as complex as a contract, was literally immobile and could NOT be put in a wheel chair. She could not hold her head up in a wheelchair for longer than 5 minutes before becoming extremely distressed. Lifting her into a car would’ve been impossible but is academic as we could not get her to the car in the first place. I believe Cell C considered me a ****. Perhaps now that she is actually dead and I’ve sent them the death certificate they will at last believe me. I’m willing to put money on it great they will attempt to continue to debit her account each month and will make ludicrous demands from me to write letters certified by the Police and then insist that I (who, thankfully, has not used Cell C for 20 years) go into one of their shops to hand them the original certified letter and original death certificate for them to finally cancel her contract. I would like to thank Cell C (NOT) for helping me to with my dying mother and the emotions and grief as one sees their mother slowly and relentlessly head towards death with zero quality of life so her last 12 months were horrific. Thanks for nothing Cell C and do. Or expect me to have anything further to do with you on this matter - I’ve sent you the death certificate and good luck with trying to debit a closed account each month. .
