Worst Cell phone provider in South Africa
I recently lost my phone, so bought a new SIM card and phoned customer care to do a SIM swop. I have been with Cell C since cell phones were first introduced. The first time I phoned they said I did not pass the security checks and I must go to one of their stores to do the SIM swop. You pay R150 to do a SIM swop at a store. It costs you nothing if you phone customer care. The SIM I got showed I could only make emergency calls. I then went to a store, bought another SIM card and told the assistant I would phone customer care as I was not prepared to pay the R150. I am a pensioner. I had to use someone else's phone to phone as I don't have a phone or a cell c sim. I called them 3 or 4 times. Each time they told me I did not pass the security checks. Each time the security questions became more and more bizarre!!!! For example: How much did I pay for the house I bought in some or other black township; Whats the credit limit on my Sanlam Personal Loan: What was my cell number before the one I am presently using? How must I remember that? I have had my present number for at least 10 years!!!! Their online service is useless. One cannot update your personal details. If you do try to update your details you are told the action cannot be performed at this time. Some of my information on my online account is also 10 years old so its no wonder one gives the incorrect security check answers because one works on current information and they working with information that comes out of the ark!!!!!! The times when I have spoken to customer service and told them to update my details they say yes they have but when I go online again it is still the incorrect information. Oh, the next day after I lost my phone, I tried to do an upgrade online as one was long overdue and when I got to the checkout, some of the compulsory information boxes are greyed out so you cannot enter the correct information. After trying a number of times I sent an email to customer care and guess what automated message I got back. Sorry, our couriers are not running at this time due to the LOCK DOWN so you cannot upgrade at this time. I must upgrade at a store. BY my last call to customer service I totally lost my cool!!! I have read a number of other reviews on the internet about Cell C and most of them are about the REDICULOUS security questions they ask you. Are they doing this on purpose to force clients to go to a store and pay the R150 upgrade or other fees???? I am disgusted with Cell C and will be canceling my contract today. That being said, that is IF I pass the security checks, because ONCE AGAIN, one has to speak to a customer care operator. GOOD BYE CELL C!!!!! Don't try and phone me, I don't have a phone anymore remember.
We do understand your frustration. However, as per RICA legislation we can only assist you with a SIM swap if the number is in your name and was being actively used by you. You also need to pass the mandatory security check before we can action the SIM swap for you. There is a lot of ***** when it comes to SIM swaps and that is why we take the necessary steps to protect you as the customer as well as Cell C.
Please gather the correct information and private message a new Rica serial number and an alternative contact number.
