Very poor 4g coverage

My phone shows 5 bars 4g signal but it is extremely slow or cuts out for minutes at a time. This has been going on for months and it is very frustrating as I use my phone's internet for work when I'm away from home. I even got a new phone because I suspected it to be my device but nothing changed.
