Unauthorised subscriptions/ Content Services

I’m extremely annoyed with Cell C because I have a data contract with them and it’s been years but today I was surprised to see my monthly contract amount increased, when I called in to enquire I was told that it’s because of content services and I was given a number (14788) to send a message to. The message being “Stop match me” when I told the agent that the sim was in a router, she asked me to remove the sim out of the router and insert it into a phone to send the message, after multi attempts of sending the message as per instruction- I received “send failed”. I called in again and informed them that I couldn’t send a message through the number in question but I was informed that the number should be able to send the message or alternatively I should send an email to: *** . This has just been a nightmare/headache which is totally unnecessary because I’ve never authorised any subscriptions of this nature. Cell C please do better in protecting your consumers from this *****.

Dear Simon

Thank you for contacting us.

Content services can only be activated from your device, and as such permission for the airtime debits can only be authorized by you. This is possible with ads that may pop up on your screen when visiting different sites. Dial *133*1# to deactivate and block subscriptions from depleting your airtime.

Thanks a mil for the prompt response, however all these unauthorised subscriptions are from gameblast supported by Cell C. So that makes me wonder, how did that happen?

You're most welcome. Third party activation(content services) are processed from the user's end. These can be processed via surfing the internet and approving subscriptions from double Opt In pop-up messages or via text message that are received with a link.
