Trying to do a sim swap with Cell C is a nightmare

Went to Eastgate Cell C to do a sim swap as I was involved in a smash and grab incident. I was asked to complete 5 numbers on a form that I frequently dial. I cannot remember 5 numbers in my head, I could only remember 1. I was told that I should go home and ask my husband (I am single) to help me with the numbers. I was highly irate after having this number for over 7 years and in addition to producing my ID and having proof of address the customer care assistant was still insisting that I cannot be helped without producing those 5 numbers. Who rememorizes 5 numbers in this day and age. O asked the service assistant to give me a contact number for me to find out where in their policy is it stated that a customer needs 5 numbers as a condition for a sim swap. I was given a 084135 number to call bearing in mind this is a Cell C number that must be dialled from a cell phone having just lost my phone in a traumatic smash and grab incident. Why is Cell C wanting to know my 5 numbers when I have a right to my privacy according to the Popia Act.. They have enough information of me to assist. Needless to say, I will not be dealing with Cell C again because of the condescending attitude of your service assistant and the company putting barriers and roadblocks to doing business with them.

Hi Theresa

Thank you for contacting Cell C.

We regret to hear about your unpleasant experience.

This is a necessary step that ensures an additional layer of security in order to deter sim swap *****.

You would have to complete the security check in order for the sim swap to be completed.
