To sim swop or not to sim swop?

To sim swop or not to sim swop?

Below is an email sent to *** 16 March 2021 at 13.39 which I am still awaiting a response from.

Last Wednesday, 10 March 2021 my phone was ******. This past weekend I've bought a new phone and to my horror have had to do a sim swop. I've purchased an unRICAed Cell C sim card.

Yesterday I attempted to do a sim swop at Cell C Gateway but they were offline. Later in the day I called Customer Care to try and get assistance. I was asked to give the last 5 numbers dialed. How am I going to do that without having my phone with the numbers? I was then asked for the specific date that airtime was last loaded. I could not recall such.

This morning I've had to drive around to the people who I last called to get their numbers before proceeding to Cell C Bridge City with my I.D document and proof of address only to be informed that the last 5 numbers I've dialled are actually not the numbers I've last dialled. Amid all of this I am awaiting calls to commence work which I am not going to receive due to this run around. What more proof is needed to prove that the number does belong to me? Is an I.D document and proof of address not enough to prove my identity?

I need someone to contact me urgently on this matter as keeping this number is of utmost importance to my employment among other things

Hi Leigh

As per the SIM swap policy, the process can only be done if the SIM card was registered under your names and ID number. You will also be required to answer the mandatory security questions.

This is done to protect you as our customer against any possible *****.

Understandable. What happens if I can not answer security questions such as an exact date as to when airtime was loaded? How much data is still on the sim? How am I to remember such questions?

Will I not be able to get a sim swop done if I can't answer those questions and am in possession of my I. D and proof of address that were required when the sim was RICA'ed?

It's mandatory that you pass the security check, you can visit your nearest Cell C store with your ID and proof of address for assistance.

What am I visiting the store for? To fail the security questions for a 3rd time? You guys are ridiculous and not understanding. What is the purpose of RICA if it can not assist in a situation like this? What more "proof" do you need other than a I. D document and proof of address?

Thank you Cell C!

Thanks, your ID number does not match the one under *** as per the system. As advised, the process can only be done if the SIM card was registered under your names and ID number.

I'm confused. Please can I have some clarity. The message you sent at 7.49 says that the I. D number does not match the one on the system. Now you say it does match so I don't need to scan the I. D.?

We are not changing from the fact that your ID number is not the one under the number in question.

What we advised on the second message is that the ID number is correct, however, it does not match the one on the system.

I am doing this query on behalf of my father. Mr MB Barlow. He is not techno savvy and can not do this on his own. I am assisting him. What does he need to do to get *** back as his number in question.

Is he able to go into the store and be assisted in doing the sim swop without the security questions that he does not know the answers to?

You said the number belongs to you and now you are saying it's for your dad?  Anyway he will be gladly assisted if the his ID number matches the one on the system and if he passes the security check.

This is the worse service ever honestly. All I wanted was for my father to get his number back due to him not being able to pass any of the security questions because he CAN NOT(not doesn't want to) answer any of the security questions.
So in conclusion he can not be assisted cause he can't remember security questions. Nevermind the fact that he is in possession of an I. D and proof of address. Why are those documents needed at RICA if they are unable to assist in situations like this? This is the best ******* I've heard all year. 5 security questions being more reliable than an I. D document.
Thank you Cell C for your NON ASSISTANCE in this issue.

As we said, he will be assisted if  his ID number matches the one on the system and if he passes the security check.

You see why the RICA documents are needed in such cases, if the number in question was RICA registered in your details, your ID number would be the one under the number in question.
