Tired of being bul**** by the big guy

I have been a Cell C customer for as long as I can remember. I have always been satisfied with the services I have received, up until I signed my previous contract in 2014. I have two issues that are causing me endless nightmares.

Issue 1
I signed my first contract with Cell C (SIM1), in my name, with my banking details in 2010. A short while later I started my studies and changed the banking details to my mother's, as it was easier for her to pay while I was studying. The bank account change was smooth with no issues. 2013 I finished my studies and started working again and in 2014 upgraded SIM1 to a new phone with my own banking details, however, Cell C continued to debit my mother's account. I went in about 5/6 times trying to change the account to my banking details to no avail. Eventually, I gave up and just paid my mother the amount that was debited every month, which was very frustrating and annoying for both myself and my mother.

Issue 2
SIM1 2014 contract ended in about May/June 2016 and so 5 July 2016 I phoned Cell C customer care to change my SIM1 contract number to a pay as you go so I could port my number to another network. The lady I spoke to was very helpful and didn't want me to change over or leave Cell C and so offered me an amazing deal that I couldn't refuse. 50 anytime minutes, 50 anytime messages and 1gig anytime data for R19.95 per month on a month to month basis, so I could cancel at any point by phoning Cell C customer care and giving them 30 days notice. She told me that at the end of July I would be debited R110 (for my package I had at the time of 100 minutes, 100 messages and 600mb), 1 August I would receive the 50min, 50sms and 1gig package and the first debit of R19.95 would be the end of August. This was such a good deal that I decided to take it and get a second contract (SIM2) with a dual sim phone so I could get a new phone and still have the R19.95 per month deal. 17 July 2016 I went into the Cell C store at Watercrest Mall and signed a new contract with another sim and new number (SIM2) with the Huawei P9 Lite on the Epic 150 top up for R300 per month. I also asked them to make sure both cell phone accounts were being debited from my bank account and not my mother’s and had even taken in a 3 month bank statement and signed all the necessary paperwork. As far as I was aware, everything was sorted and I would be receiving 50 minutes, 50 messages, 1gig data on SIM1 and R150 airtime on SIM2 on my new dual sim phone for a total of R320 per month debited from my account.

31 July came around and my mother’s account was debited R200 instead of my account being debited R110 for SIM1, and the next day SIM1 received 100 minutes, 100 messages and 600mb data, my previous package. I was not impressed.

19 August I went into Cell C Watercrest Mall to find out what had happened. Maxwell, the gentleman who had sold me my SIM2 contract, phoned the Cell C customer care line and, again I spoke to a lady who was very helpful. She explained to me that the first lady who had sold me the R19.95 package on my SIM1 was no longer working for Cell C, but she would correct what had happened and change me to the R19.95 package immediately. I had to forfeit the minutes, messages and data on SIM1 and I would receive the R19.95 package pro rata, which I agreed to. I also asked Maxwell why my mother’s account was still being debited and not mine, to which he said that sometimes it can take up to 30 days for it to be processed so 31 August my account will be debited. 31 August came around and again my mother was debited R200 instead of me being debited R19.95.

I work a fulltime 8-5 job all the way in Durban North so it is difficult for me to find time to go into the Cell C store during the week and because my mother’s account had been debited, she decided to take the matter into her own hands and Friday 2 September she reversed the Cell C debit with her bank and went into Cell C at Watercrest mall.

She spoke to Maxwell and Maxwell informed her that I had in fact NOT requested for both contracts to be debited from my account and that if I had asked him, he would have told me that my mother would have to come into the store with me. Why that is necessary, I don’t know, but that is not what got on my nerves. What got on my nerves was the fact that if Maxwell had told me that my mother had to accompany me to change the banking details to my account, I would have driven the 2 minutes down the road, fetched my mother and dealt with it then and there. But he didn’t inform me that it was necessary for my mother to be there. While my mother was talking to Maxwell, she phoned me to double check what I had been told, but Maxwell stuck to his story that I had not asked to change my banking details which basically means he was calling me a ****.

I have been trying to change the account details to my bank account for over 2 years and have had no success, and now, because my mother reversed the debit, my SIM1 cell phone account has been suspended.

All of this just because I decided I wanted to stay with Cell C and take an amazing deal with them.

I am unimpressed with the way Cell C has dealt with my situation and I am tired of being sent from person to person, none of whom are able or willing to help. I am livid with the fact that I have been called a ****, when it was in fact a Cell C agent who sold me the R19.95 deal, it was a Cell C agent who said the money would be debited from my account and not my mother’s and it was a Cell C agent who told me that I would only be debited R19.95 only.

If there is no way this whole ordeal can be solved, I would like to cancel all of my Cell C accounts.

I look forward to hearing from Cell C.

Thanks.

I have also received an sms stating that R70 will be charged on returned debit orders. So does that mean Cell C is charging me R70 for their poor service?

I would just like to let Cell C know that I think the reason my issue existed at all was due to the Cell C agents that had previously dealt with my case and their inability to explain details properly.
I left work early yesterday in order to make it to the Watercrest Mall Cell C before it closed and spoke to the manager, Sashendra.
Sashendra took the time to listen to my issues and was able to explain what needed to be done. He explained that banking details cannot be changed at store level due to the high volumes of ********** accounts that had been created in the past. Clearly I had not been told this previously and so had continued to try change my banking details in store. Sashendra helped connect me to Lionel, who was also extremely friendly and helpful and who sorted out my banking details issue. Lionel also explained all of the amounts on my invoice and informed me of the amounts that would be and had been debited and what they were for. While the R200.04 amount that had been debited is unfair and would never have been that amount if the previous Cell C agents had done their job properly and changed my package when they said they would, Lionel explained that it was for the 100min 100sms and 600mb that I had received and had used, which is understandable, but still unfair. However, I will take that knock and move forward in the hopes that my ordeal has in fact been solved for good. I also asked Lionel about the sms I had received stating that R70 will be charged for returned debit orders. He had no record of the sms, which is strange, but he said it shouldn’t be debited.
This morning I received a phone call from Mpho, who was assigned my case on Hello Peter. I informed him that everything had been sorted out and that I would be staying with Cell C for the time being. I did double check on the returned debit sms that I had received, to which he told me that he can clearly see that it wasn’t my fault and he will keep watch to ensure I am credited if the amount is debited. He also left me with his direct Cell C email address just in case.
I would like to thank Sashendra, Lionel and Mpho for taking the time to do their jobs properly. If it were not for them, Cell C definitely would have lost a long time loyal customer.
I just want Cell C to remember something they should already know being such a large super company. A business doesn’t thrive alone on gaining new customers. Customer retention is just as, if not more, important. So please don’t forget us small contract customers who probably make up a large portion of your profits.
Thanks,
Casey
