Throttling online IPTV streaming
Got Cell C fibre on the promise I would be able to stream IPTV and dump DStv.
Internet works perfectly EXCEPT for IPTV streaming.
Spoke to the support centre and have yet to find one person who knows what iptv is and have been told to get a static ip to fix it. Requested on. Called back a month later to be told they don’t offer static IP.
I called again and asked if they limit streaming. They said they didn’t.
Then how come it works perfectly on 3G, 4G, LTE... and not on my 50/50 fibre line...??
In short, they clearly throttle streaming........

You mentioned that your internet is working perfectly fine except for IPTV, what happens? Is the screen blank or is the channel buffering?
Regards

30 Mar 2019, 10:53So have you managed to find anyone in fibre support that knows more than how to tell customers to turn the router off and on? I feel like I’m in an episode of The IT crowd....

30 Mar 2019, 11:39Not yet, I was still trying to troubleshoot with you. So this is happening on all channels then you need to check on your end.
– Reboot your devices and wait for 30 secs before turning them back on (STBs, Android Boxes, Routers, Cable modems)
– Make sure you are connecting using a LAN (Ethernet) cable to devices and not via Wifi.
Alternatively directly connect to your router using a LAN (ethernet) cable or to a power line adaptor.
If not possible, try moving the box closer to the router.
Change your WI-FI channel. To avoid interference with nearby devices.
If you experience buffering press “pause” for 10-15 seconds and resume, most of the time that will eliminate the need to buffer.

NOT WIRELESS SO NOT RELEVANT
If you experience buffering press “pause” for 10-15 seconds and resume, most of the time that will eliminate the need to buffer. NOPE. PLAYS FOR A FEW SECONDS THEN BUFFERS EVERY FEW SECONDS.
I can stream Netflix perfectly.... and YouTube. So there is something when I connect to a server directly on their port 8080 that CELL c fibre are restricting.... that Vodacom, MTN, Bronberg and other suppliers done.
I have neighbour with a different fibre provider on the eatate and worlds fine- same ONT provider etc. so ONly difference is cell c fibre...
So what are the QoS that Cellc users?

30 Mar 2019, 12:37Please check if Cell C fibre blocks access to Port 8080 ... specifically if the setting is incorrect on your side (inasmuch as inappropriate restrictions when connecting to the 8080 on a server)
