Telephone manners

<p>I have three contracts with cell C and I have been a loyal customer for many years.</p> <p>Most of their staff are excellent.</p> <p> </p> <p>However some of their employees need help.</p> <p>When one is approached by a stranger, they should introduce themselves. I was phoned this afternoon at about 12,15 pm by a stranger. First my mobile phone rang but before I could answer it, my landline rang. She addressed me by my surname and said 'Mr'. I asked who I had the pleasure of addressing? She gave me her name and the name of her company. She said two of my numbers needed 'updating'. "Do you want to update," she asked? She mentioned a number which I did not recognise.</p> <p> </p> <p>I mentioned that there is a telephone protocol that she needed to observe. That when one rings a customer, as a matter of courtesy, one should introduce oneself first and the find out if the customer is able to converse?</p> <p> I explained to Ms Zethu that I am a medical doctor and should be addressed as 'doctor' not 'as Mr' as that is inaccurate. Apartheid people would never acknowledge non white doctors. Very insolently, she said 'Mr' or 'doctor' does not matter.</p> <p> </p> <p>She was so rude that I finally had to cut the call as I was busy with work.</p> <p>I think that Ms Zethu is a liability to Cell C and that she needs training to improve her manners and telephone social s****s so that she does not bring a great company into disrepute.</p>
