Subscribed to unwanted Cell C WASPS service
At the end of April 2019, I received a bill of R497. 72 on a ~R300 data contract I had signed up for years before. After calling Cell C Cavendish I was told that the extra charge was due to a subscription on my account, this subscription "must have been added when clicking on a website that redirected you somewhere else and then subscribed you". I asked why would Cell C allow this and how I can prevent it from happening again. They said I could put a maximum spend on the account and to unsubscribe I need to take the SIM card out of the modem and after putting in a cellphone, dial a number to unsubscribe. I logged onto the cellc.co.za website and after logging in with my number " ********** 728" I was able to see the subscription under the "MANAGE WASPS" section, the one listed there was ********** Sounds fishy doesn't it? I tried unsubscribing but got a "Programmatic Error".
To be honest Cell C, this sounds like you're subscribing your customer randomly to services, or if not, making it very easy to "double-opt-in" to services that are costly and not useful. I want to know:|
1) When was I subscribed and how? 2) Why are you making it easy for customers to fall into this trap? Does this sound like you have the customer best interests at heart? 3) Besides taking out my SIM from modem, placing it in cellphone and dialing "*133*1#" is there another way I can unsubscribe? 4) Does "(@)" sound like a legitimate subscription? What does this even do? 5) This subscription was not done with my consent and would like my money back.
