Settlement on contract

Not once was it a pleasure doing business with your company. A couple of months ago I settled my contract with Cell C. Now I want to settle my other contract. But one thing I can't understand is that with the previous contract I settled it and only paid a small amount for the remaining month subscription. Now I was told today that even if I settle the contract today I will still be paying for the next two months. So instead of paying R1473. 37 I will be paying the next two months R279. 00. So this contract will cost me nearly R2000 to settle it. A small pay for a month where I don't get anything? How does this work? I want to settle this contract and move my number away from Cell C.
