Repaired phone sold as new?

In May 2016 I received a call from Cell C directly trying to sell me an upgrade for my current internet ****le.

I informed him that I was satisfied with my current product and didn’t require an upgrade; he accepted this and asked whether there was anything else he could assist me with. I told him that I didn't think so as I could only upgrade in October 2016. He told me that Cell C could supply me with a new phone now but I would only start paying for it in October 2016.

I told him that would be good and I chose a Samsung Galaxy S6 EDGE. In about 2 weeks the courier company delivered the phone.

I started using the phone and it work perfectly; I did however notice two very small dots in left bottom corner of the screen maybe the size of a pixel or 2. It did bother me a bit but because of the location of it on the screen and how small it was I decided to ignore it.

I have been using the phone for about seven months now. Always keeping it in its protective case and taking a lot of care while using it.

Then the morning of 5 January 2017 I noticed my screen was dark and would not switch on or charge...

I asked off from work and went to Cell C Loch Logan, Bloemfontein and gave my phone in for repairs.

I was assisted and told it could take up to 21 working days. And issued a reference number: FSBLO89141

I asked the consultant whether he stated on the card that the phone was in perfect condition externally. And he said that he did.

On the Job card it states:

“Appearance conditions”

GOOD

GOOD

Then 16/01/2017 I received a text message from Cell C stating:

“Dear valued Cell C Customer, The assessment on your device has been completed. A quote has been generated for your device. For more information please contact 084140 and request to be transferred to Cell C Repairs, to accept or reject the quote. Your ref no is FSBLO89141” and then banking details.

I was extremely shocked at this moment and was thinking if there is a quote they are not covering it under warranty which could not possibly be true.

I phone Cell C and asked to be transferred to their repair center but was informed that they were closed for the day. So 17/01/2017 I phoned and got transferred to the Repair Centre. I spoke to a lady at the repair center and gave her my reference number. She informed me that there was a quote on my device and it amounted to about R3300.00 I asked her for what and she said for a new screen and battery.

I asked her how this is possible that it isn’t covered under warranty and se informed me that the technicians noted that the phone had previously been worked on and that they found ink inside the device and that it was evident.

I asked her how that could be possible that a “NEW” phone had been worked on. I told her that I had no knowledge of this and that it would have to be covered under warranty. She said it would not be possible as the phone had been opened and worked on.

She then hastily asked whether I accepted the quote or not, and I told her most definitely not and that this was unacceptable.

Why would I have anyone else than Cell C work on my phone while it’s under warranty? It makes no sense…

So as I understand this Cell C sold me a refurbished/repaired Phone as NEW and now that the phone is not working any more want me to pay for their repairs??

I find this level of service absolutely Ridiculous and unacceptable!
