POPI Violation By CELL C Employee

<p>On the 16th of Novermber at about 16h30 i got a call from cell c (084145) and I spoke to a gentleman named Mike Ndlovu, he offered me their 10gig wifi package for R229. I was happy to accept this as i spend far more on mobile data.</p> <p> </p> <p>He proceeded to take my details (Name & Surname, ID number, Banking Details, Address) and he confirmed that i should expect delivery on the 17th. Durung the telecom, he sent me an OTP SMS and that put me at ease as it served as a security confirmation that i was indeed speacking to a CELL C representative.</p> <p> </p> <p>When i didnt recive any email or SMS confirmation of my order i began to worry, the then day i called the CELL C contact centre and spoke to a pleasent lady named Sindy. She confirmed that yes there was a call made to my number however the system had declined my application and there was absolutely no need for Mike to take my details. Mike read the terms and conditions to me and promised me delivery, i accepted the agreement and as per FICA and FAIS acts i am in contract with CELL C as a telephonic agreement constitutes a contract.</p> <p> </p> <p>My biggest concern however is that, if there was no application processed on the system, as confirmed by Sindy, why did the consultant take all my details and what does he intend on doing with my information. Has anyone from CELL C heard of the POPI act?????</p> <p> </p> <p>In a country plagueded by identity theft, account scimming and all sorts of malicious violations agaisnts peoples personal information, I would hate to think that CELL C employees are *********.</p> <p> </p>
